Our morning started very early, having such a long car ride before we made it to Zenica. We ended up lost though thanks to a foreign GPS that we had no idea how to work, so we ended up taking the scenic route but we made it there all the same. First place we absolutely had to go to was the Vranduk Fortress. So far this has been one of the most history filled places we have been. The Vranduk Fortress was where the Baton uprising during Illyrian times came to an end. After the victory of the Roman army, the women and children chose to leap into a fire over becoming slaves to the Romans. During medieval times the Vranduk Fortress had great military significance for the defense of Srebrena Bosnia. Also even to this day the fortress is still very well populated, as we found out when we got there. This place was very much worth the visit.
After that we visited the mountain "Kica". It isn't one of the tallest mountains in Bosnia but it is still very tall. It is 3,455 feet or 1,053 meters tall and when we reached the top we were already breathless but when we looked out over Zenica it was absolutely amazing. All the other mountains spread out around us and Zenica below us. There aren't words to describe the beauty of it all.
Since we were already around the outskirts of Zenica and it was only about a mile away we decided we were going to hike up the mountain Gric next. It wasnt going to be as difficult a climb but it was still along ways up a 3,012 feet or 918 meters mountain. It was just as breathtaking at the top of the mountain though. We could see mountain "Kica" from where we were which made it even more exciting to see that we had just climbed two huge mountains.
.
When we returned to town we went to "Miris dunja" which also means "the smell of quinces." It was a very warm and hospitable place, the waitor even took our coats when we walked in the door. For dinner I just had their vegetable soup which was actually quite diffrent then what we get at home. It warmed me right up though.
That night we stayed in the "Hotel Pahuljica." It was a little more expensive then the first couple hotels but all the hot water and warm beds were worth it.
